The DYS blue series speed controllers have been developed and setup specifically for multirotor use, so no programming required. Unlike generic helicopter / aeroplane ESCs, the DYS speed controllers come preloaded with multirotor specific firmware preinstalled. Best still, it’s not just any old firmware; it’s the highly regarded SimonK firmware, which is optimised for multirotor applications. Google ‘SimonK firmware’ and you’ll come across lots of forum posts singing its praises. It’s designed to improve throttle precision but most importantly it can radically improve flight stability. It works by increasing the ESC refresh rate, in simple terms this means a SimonK ESC tells the motor what to do much more frequently than a non-SimonK ESC. The end product is a more ‘locked in’ feel, as the motors are able to make faster adjustments to the flight controller commands.
This particular ESC is well suited to heavy lifting multirotors such as large hexacopters and octocopters. It’s rated at 40amps (60amp burst) and it supports 2S to 6S (11.1v – 22.2v) operation. The ESC is OPTO, therefore it doesn’t have a built in 5V BEC. You will need an extra power source for your receiver and the ESC itself. For this you can use a 5V UBEC, voltage regulator, or an extra battery.

Here at Flying Tech we have a wide choice of electronic speed controllers (ESCs).
There are two main types of ESCs: 4-in-1 ESCs and single ESCs. A 4-in-1 ESC integrates four individual ESCs onto a single circuit board, each controlling a separate motor. A single ESC controls only one motor.
This 4-in-1 ESC is a more popular choice for racing quads, while single motor aircraft such as fixed wings would use a single ESC. Single ESCs are still used by some drone racers though, as after a crash or a burnt up ESC, they only have to replace one, not an entire 4-in-1 or stack which is a lot more costly. Single ESCs are also available which much greater current ratings (80amp +) so they are also used by power hungry multi-rotors, for example X-Class racing quads, professional camera flying “Cinelifters”.
When using individual ESCs, they typically need to be connected to a single power distribution board (PDB) or an “AIO flight controller” (a type of flight controller with integrated PDB) for power supply.
