Description

The Hobbywing X-Rotor series ESC are good quality multirotor speed controllers that have been widely proven to be reliable and deliver great performance. They have been specifically designed for multirotors and come preconfigured so that they are ready to use out of the box after a simple throttle calibration. They are compatible with all of the leading flight controllers, including Naza, APM, Pixhawk etc. and brushless motors including those with high pole counts and low Kv ratings. Finally, the firmware on these ESCs is tuned to deliver a very smooth linear throttle curve that is ideal for multirotor applications.

HobbyWing XRotor Features:

  • Special core program for multi-rotor controllers greatly improves throttle response
  • Specially optimized software for excellent compatibility with disc-type motors
  • Settings are preset, making usage simple, highly intelligent and adaptive
  • The twisted-pair design of the throttle signal cable effectively reduces the crosstalk produced in signal transmission and makes flight more stable
  • Compatible with various flight-control systems and supports a signal frequency of up to 621Hz (Note: all throttle signals over 500Hz are non-standard signals)
  • MOSFET with extra-low resistance brings high performance and great current endurance

Advice

Here at Flying Tech we have a wide choice of electronic speed controllers (ESCs).

There are two main types of ESCs: 4-in-1 ESCs and single ESCs. A 4-in-1 ESC integrates four individual ESCs onto a single circuit board, each controlling a separate motor. A single ESC controls only one motor.

This 4-in-1 ESC is a more popular choice for racing quads, while single motor aircraft such as fixed wings would use a single ESC. Single ESCs are still used by some drone racers though, as after a crash or a burnt up ESC, they only have to replace one, not an entire 4-in-1 or stack which is a lot more costly. Single ESCs are also available which much greater current ratings (80amp +) so they are also used by power hungry multi-rotors, for example X-Class racing quads, professional camera flying “Cinelifters”.

When using individual ESCs, they typically need to be connected to a single power distribution board (PDB) or an “AIO flight controller” (a type of flight controller with integrated PDB) for power supply.
