A Vario (Variometer) is a device for indicating an aircraft’s rate of climb or descent. It measures the rate of change of altitude by detecting the change in air pressure (static pressure) as altitude changes. For glider pilots a Vario sensor is invaluable if you want to catch thermals with your RC plane.
