As FPV monitors go, the 5802Dย is a great all-rounder and won’t break the bank. Offering a fantastic 7-inch LCD display with a 40-channel 5.8GHz diversity receiver, the 5802Dย is a great package whether you are just starting out in FPV or are an experienced UAV pilot looking for a reliable all in one solution for your video display needs.
Unlike generic LCD displays, the 5802Dย has been designed for FPV use, so it boasts a 6000cd/mยฒ LED backlit screen which is bright enough to be seen outdoors. Furthermore the built in sunshade keeps glare off the screen and collapses down after use to provide protection during transportation.
Most importantly for FPV users, if the input signal gets weak it does not switch to the dreaded “blue screen” – a problem with many non-FPV monitors whereby if signal strength dips, even for a split second the screen turns blue! When this monitor suffers from a signal interruptionย it just shows static and hence this feature allows you to fly much further without losing the image and potentially your drone!
The 5802Dโs inbuilt dual 5.8GHz receiver matches the screen on its performance. It boasts 40 channels, across five bands making it compatible with most FPV equipment on the market including Fat Shark and ImmersionRC. Thereโs also has an auto-search function, which is very handy for quickly finding the correct channel for your video transmitter.ย The inclusion of a 5.8GHz diversity receiver is a real bonus. A diversity receiver is essentially two receivers all in one. In essence, this allows you two mix and match antennas for a solid video link. So it might be that you select a circular polarised omnidirectional antenna, which will provide good reception in all directions in the near field, and a directional high gain patch antenna for long distance flights. The diversity receiver is clever in that it will seamlessly switch between the receiver with the strongest signal.
In addition to the diversity RX, the 5802Dย has another useful function, namely a DVR. The built in DVR lets you record and play back your flight for you and your mates to enjoy over and over again. More importantly, the DVR could also be a lifesaver for your model. Couple your FPV setup with a OSD (on screen display) and if you lose your model, play back the video to get the GPS coordinates of the crash site. Note that the DVR requires a micro SD card to record footage (supports up to 32GB).
The monitor features an integrated 2000mAh rechargeable battery, which eliminates the need for external batteries and messy wires. The battery life is 2-3 hours and it can be easily recharged from a 12V LiPo battery or 12V power supply.
Finally, the monitor has an AV input port and an AV output port. This means that you can use it as justย a monitor and feed it with a signal from a different receiver, or you can use the 5802D’s inbuilt diversity receiver and output the signal to another display, for instance FPV goggles.
For the best FPV experience we recommend fixing the monitorย to your transmitter usingย our carbon fibre monitor mount sold separately.
