An analog FPV system relies on three key components: a Camera, a Video Transmitter, and a Video Receiver (VRX).
The VRX picks up the video feed. While many FPV Goggles and Monitors have built-in receivers, standalone VRXs offer greater flexibility, allowing users to choose a receiver that matches their operating frequency—typically 5.8GHz, though 1.2GHz is popular for long-range FPV.
Receivers designed for FPV goggles are called Receiver Modules. Alternatively, standalone VRXs with 3.5mm AV, HDMI, or USB output let you connect to an external display, such as a monitor, TV, or tablet, making them ideal for building a custom ground station.
Most VRXs support multiple channels—just like tuning a TV, you select the same channel set as your drone’s video transmitter to receive the feed. Some models feature auto-scanning to make the process effortless. Multiple pilots can fly together by using different channels.
For the best range and to minimise video dropouts, look for features like Receiver Diversity or Image Fusion Technology. Reception can be further improved by using better quality Antennas.
