Here’s a great alternative to a conventional buddy-box setup. It involves no trainer cable and doesn’t require the master and slave transmitter / receiver to be of the same make or model. The unit inter-connects two SBUS radio receivers to provide a single SBUS output for controlling your model. This means control can be switch between two pilots at the flick of a switch for the purpose of training.
As well as pilot training, the unit opens up many other potential applications. For instance, for safe FPV flying, with it your observer could take over the flying at the flick of a switch if need be. The system could even be used if you wanted to fly long distance – using two pilots at different locations.
The unit is small and light as well as simple and fast to set up.
Setup
1: The receiver corresponding to the trainer remote controller (A) is plugged into the SBUS A input terminal on the trainer module. The receiver corresponding to the trainee remote controller (B) is plugged into the SBUS B input terminal on the trainer module.
2: The SBUSÂ output of the trainer module is connected to the SBUS input on the flight controller / gyro equipment of the UAV.
3: Assign a 2 or 3 position switch on channel 8 of trainer remote control (A). By moving this switch back and forth, the output signal of trainer remote control (A) or trainee remote control (B) can be freely switched to control the UAV.
4: When the instructor receiver (A) outputs a signal, the indicator LED A is on. When the trainee receiver (B) outputs a signal, the indicator LED B is on.
