The Skyzone Cobra is one of the best “box goggles” on the market. They have two versions to pick from.
The V4 version of the Cobra X edition has an improved DVR – it now records at 60FPS, up from 30FPS.
There’s a new ‘box style’ FPV headset on the scene from Skyzone. It’s called the Cobra and it’s available in two model versions. The Cobra SD has a 4:3 LCD display with a 800x480px resolution and the higher spec Cobra X has a 1280x720px display, which supports both 16:9 (native) and 4:3 aspect ratios. Both versions have a large 50° FOV (field of view), which is bigger than most high-end slimline goggles. The Cobra SD has a diversity receiver while the Cobra X uses the upgraded SteadyView receiver. The other difference between the two is that the X’s DVR records at a higher quality 60FPS vs 30FPS.
As with all Skyzone goggles, this headset is feature rich, so aside from the included DVR already mentioned, it comes installed with a receiver module, head-tracker and lots of connectivity.
The Cobra X’s receiver module is Skyzone’s latest SteadyView Rx. It works like other leading receiver modules in that it merges two video signals into one image to produce the strongest possible reception and clearest image. It’s compatible with all 5.8Ghz analogue video transmitters. If you don’t want to use the inbuilt RX, the module is actually removable so could be replaced with an alternative. There’s also AV and HDMI inputs – the latter could even be used to work with HD FPV systems like Fat Shark Shark Byte.
The goggles are easy to use thanks to a handy scroll wheel, that allows you to effortlessly navigate the goggles menu so you can spend less time scrolling and more time flying. The setup menus are also very clear and intuitive.
A single 18650 battery (not included) powers the headset. You can also use an external battery (2-6S LiPo) via the DC input or USB-C connection. Please use the provided USB-C cable, third party cables are not supported.
Finally, being a box type headset, they can accommodate those who wear glasses, no more flying blind!
