The iRangeX IRX4 Plus is a versatile 4-in-1 multiprotocol transmitter module that allows a single radio to control models using a huge range of different RC protocols. Whether you have vintage RC equipment, toy-grade quadcopters, or aircraft using popular systems such as FrSky, FlySky or Spektrum DSM2/DSMX, the IRX4 Plus helps bring them all together on one transmitter.
Unlike many newer multiprotocol modules, the IRX4 Plus includes a manual protocol selection dial, making it an excellent choice for older PPM-based transmitters that do not support OpenTX, EdgeTX or serial multiprotocol control. Simply select the required protocol using the rotary switch and bind your model. For modern transmitters supporting the Multi module protocol, the rotary switch can be left in Serial Mode, allowing protocols to be selected directly from the radio menu.
The module combines four RF transceivers (CC2500, NRF24L01, A7105 and CYRF6936) with an STM32 microcontroller to provide compatibility with a vast range of receivers and models. Firmware updates are easily performed via the built-in USB port, while the redesigned case provides a secure fit in standard JR-style module bays.
Whether you’re keeping older models flying, consolidating multiple transmitters into one, or need manual protocol selection for a legacy radio, the IRX4 Plus remains one of the most flexible multiprotocol modules available.
Features
- 4-in-1 RF design using CC2500, NRF24L01, A7105 and CYRF6936 transceivers.
- Supports both Serial (Multi) mode and manual PPM protocol selection.
- Rotary selector for use with transmitters that do not support serial multiprotocol control.
- Compatible with OpenTX, EdgeTX and other transmitters supporting the Multi protocol.
- USB port for firmware updates.
- JR-style module case with improved fit.
- Supports a wide range of popular RC protocols including FrSky, FlySky, DSM2/DSMX, Hubsan, Devo, Syma and many more.
Compatibility
The IRX4 Plus is compatible with JR-style module bay transmitters, including many radios from FrSky, Radiomaster, Jumper, Turnigy and other manufacturers. It can also be used with older PPM-capable transmitters using the manual protocol selection mode.
Setup Serial Mode:
The operation mode can be used by transmitters that operate with OpenTX 2.2.X, so all FrSky transmitters and other brands too. OpenTX 2.2.X has special support for the iRangeX IRX4 Plus that allows the protocols to be easily selected from the transmitter SETUP menu or Companion.
- Install module into transmitter’s external module bay
- Ensure radio is flashed with OpenTX version 2.2.X (Firmware Download) (Flashing Guide)
- Serial mode is selected by placing the rotary switch to position 0 before powering on the radio.
- Set default Channel Order (Radio Setup Menu) to AETR
- In the Setup Menu, disable Internal RF “OFF” and Enable External RF
- For the External RF Mode select “Multi” then select the required Protocol to match your model
- Enable Auto Bind for supported models
- For more information, please refer here
Setup PPM Mode (Manual Protocol Selection):
This operation mode is for transmitters that don’t support OpenTx firmware.
- Install module into transmitter’s external module bay
- According to the default PPM protocols table, turn the rotary protocol switch to the indicated number to choose the appropriate protocol. When in PPM mode, there are 31 different protocols (Position ‘0’ is reserved for serial mode) mapping to the 16-position protocol selection switch. When the green LED is off, you can use the switch to choose Protocol Number 1 to Number 15. When the green LED is on, you can choose Protocol Number 16 to Number 31. To turn on/off the green LED – turn of the transmitter, point the protocol switch to ‘0’, hold and press the bind button and then turn on your transmitter, after 3 seconds release the button.
Binding Operation in PPM Mode:
- Power on your receiver and set it to binding mode.
- Hold and press the bind button of the Multiprotocol Module and then turn on your transmitter. After 3 seconds release the button, you will see the red light flashing rapidly, the module is in binding mode and the red light will go solid after binding.
- Some protocols (eg: S-FHSS) don’t have binding procedure on RF module, and some protocols (eg: hubsan, e010) will auto bind when power up.
- The red light will blink slowly if there is no valid PPM signal.
Notes:
- Sometimes, you may need a power recycle when you choose a new protocol. for example, protocol changes from Q303 to HISKY.
- For FRSKY and S-FHSS protocol, you may need to set the value of Fine or Option (in the Model Settings menu) properly to bind with your model.
