Nowadays drones are commonly used for film production and in particular FPV Racing Drones that are highly manoeuvrable and fast have amazed audiences with the dynamic footage that they can capture. The main drawback of using a Racing Drone in a filming application is their low payload capacity, meaning that they aren’t able to carry cinema standard cameras. That’s where the Holybro Kopis Cinematic X8 drone comes in; it fits into a new category of drone, the Cinematic FPV Racing Drone.
The Holybro Kopis Cinematic X8 is a heavy-duty drone rig for film making professionals. It’s designed to carry heavier cinema production standard cameras such as Red Komodo, Zcam, Black Magic Pocket 6K, GH5, or Sony a7s3 etc. The frame design is octocopter configuration in a four armed layout, so with coaxial motor mounts as a X8. This configuration provides plenty performance, but most importantly motor/ESC redundancy. Surely a priority if you plan to fly a very expensive camera!
The frame makes use of high quality carbon fibre parts. Two pieces of 5mm carbon fibre arms provide reliable structural support for this powerful X8. Carbon is also used for the landing skids, battery mount and camera mounting. Talking of the camera mount, its installation angle is adjustable 0 to 25°, which is perfect for cinematic filming. There are also integrated shock dampers to ensure you get silky smooth footage without jello. The frame doesn’t include electronics, but it’s been designed to accommodate a 30×30 or 20×20 flight controller and it has hole mounts for the DJI FPV Air Unit VTX or Caddx Vista VTX.
