So you’ve got a racing drone, but you’re looking to go faster than your mates; tilted motor mounts are the answer. Not only will they turbocharge your mini quad, they will also improve visibility so that you spend less time looking at the ground and more time eyeing up the obstacles ahead.
So how do they work? Simply put, tilted mounts direct more thrust horizontally, meaning that the drone has to pitch forward less to achieve the same speed as a conventional setup. Flying flatter helps to reduce drag which improves the top speed and it also means that the camera remains looking ahead.
These particular aluminium tilt motor mounts are available with either 7 or 10 degrees of angled. They are also a couple of size variations to suit is 18XX and 22XX class motors. The smaller 18XX mount has M2.5 Φ12mm motor holes, compatible with motors like the DYS BE1806, while the larger 22XX has M3 Φ16mm motor holes, compatible with motors like the Emax RS2205. The mounts are simply attached to your frame in place of the motors, with your motors being first secured to the mounts. We offer a price quantity discount on these mounts, so the more you buy, the more you save!
As tilted mounts alter the flying angle of the frame, you must make a small setup adjustment to account for this, otherwise the quadcopter will move forward when level. You can either run a new accelerometer calibration with the craft tilted so that the props are level, or tilt compensation can be set in software via the following command:
OpenPilot: In GCS, go to INS and change Pitch to -10*
Naze32 / FLIP 32: In CLI type set align_board_pitch = +10*
*This number should match the tilt of the inclined motor mounts, typically 10 degrees.
Product Variations:
- Blue: 7 degree angle of inclination (Size: 18XX/22XX)
- Silver: 10 degree angle of inclination (Size: 18XX/22XX)
