The Hawkeye 4K Thumb 2 builds on the success of its predecessor, offering an affordable alternative to action cameras like the Insta360 GO series while packing even more features.
With its 12MP Sony sensor, the Thumb 2 delivers impressive 4K video quality while maintaining a compact and lightweight design. A built-in gyro enables image stabilization, and the camera can function as both a recording camera and an analog FPV camera. Unlike many competing models, the Hawkeye 4K Thumb 2 features a video-out pin, allowing it to be connected to an analog video transmitter. Additionally, it can be used as a webcam, outputting 1080P 30FPS video via its USB-C connection.
As with the original Thumb camera, the Thumb 2 can save gyro data while recording, making it fully compatible with Gyroflow for advanced video stabilisation. Gyroflow is an open-source stabilization tool that uses gyro data for motion compensation, providing buttery-smooth footage without the need for a mechanical gimbal.
Notably, the Thumb 2 now includes a built-in battery, enhancing its versatility for everyday filming—not just for FPV. The camera can be charged via USB-C or through a DC input (5 to 23V), giving users flexible power options.
Additionally, it supports connection to a flight controller (FC) via a UART port, enabling control through radio switches in Betaflight (cable not included). The camera also features Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing it to pair with a phone app for live preview, video playback, camera control, and settings adjustments—offering GoPro-like flexibility in parameter tuning.
The camera now features a magnetic mounting system, offering even greater flexibility for quick attachment and removal.
The Hawkeye 4K Thumb 2 supports microSD cards up to 128GB (not included) and records in H.265 format for efficient compression and high-quality video storage.
With its improved features, enhanced usability, and lightweight design, the Thumb 2 is a powerful and budget-friendly choice for FPV pilots and content creators alike.
