STROBON Lights are the most powerful navigation lights on the model market for years. These new Cree Edition lights are brighter still and come in a polycarbonate dome and pre-wired.

STROBON Lights are the most powerful navigation lights on the model market for years. These new Cree Edition lights are brighter still and come in a polycarbonate dome and pre-wired.

As with the standard V2s, if you use more than one Strobon on the same servo channel they will synchronise, meaning all strobes will flash at the same time like a real aircraft strobe system. You can also switch them on and off remotely. Finally, they support 5 different working pattern, including ‘blink’, ‘heartbeat’, ‘rotating beacon’, ‘static’ and of course the legendary ‘strobe’.

The Strobons are available in a variety of colour options and Infrared.

Warning, these lights are seriously bright, we wouldn’t recommend looking directly at them close-up, they are blinding!

This product is compatible with latest FAA and CAA anti collision lights rules for drones. It’s visible from 3 miles away at night.

If you would prefer a zero wiring option, there is now the new Strobon Standalone Strobe LED which is battery powered.

5 different patterns:

  • Strobe: Legendary Strobon v1 strobe effect. 3 fast flashes like xenon wing tip flash lights.
  • Blink: Simulates belly or tail lights. Continuous ON/OFF.
  • Heartbeat: Standard beacon light pattern, ramp up/ramp down/off.
  • Rotating Beacon: Perfect simulation of rolling beacons. ramp up/flash/ramp down/off.
  • Static: You can use it as landing headlights or static wing-tip lights.

2 different working modes:

The device features 2 different working modes, continuous or RC mode.

  • RC Controlled Mode: Plug it on your RC receiver’s any channel for RC mode, then you can enable/disable it over selected servo channel.
Each Strobon counts the servo signals. So, you can plug more than one Strobon to the same RC channel to syncronize them.
  • Standalone Mode: Power it with directly from the battery (3.5-6v) it works on Standalone mode and works continuously.

Optional Accessory: If you are wanting to run multiple strobes and have them synchronised without using a radio receiver, we recommend getting the PWR 3A Strobon Navigation Light Synchroniser with a built-in power supply. The synchroniser generates a PWM signal to supply and synchronise the navigation lights while also providing a regulated 5V power supply to them.

Pattern Selection:

To set the pattern, all you need is a piece of wire or some tweezers to use to connect the two small pads of the strobon v2 board while it’s working (it will not change the pattern when it’s OFF). It will stop working when you connect these pins and jump to next pattern when you release the connection. The strobons have a memory, so the slected pattern is remembered even if you disconnect the power.

Colour Selection:

Because of the human eye’s limitations, every colour has different visibility and energy transfer rate. Also, every LED colour has different chemical compounds and efficiency.

According to our experience in years;

WHITE: The best visibility and efficiency.
RED: 2th in the visibility, efficiency is same as white but the best for warning.
GREEN:  3th in the visibility and efficiency. Best for Standard RED/GREEN (Left/Right) navigation usage.
BLUE: 4th in visibility and also efficiency.  We are not suggesting this colour for warning or navigation but special usage.
Yellow: Same as White butter mist penetration.
IR 950nm: Visible for Night Vision Goggles and surveillance cameras with night mode.
IR 940nm: Visible for Night Vision Goggles only. Completely invisible to the naked human eye. Some cameras can see in the short-range..

Bottom line: White and Red is the best option if you need long-range visible strobes. And you can use the green to identify your flying platform direction. Blue is useful for special applications.

Advice

How to light your multirotor: Lighting is obviously a necessity for nighttime flying, however it’s also really helpful when flying in daylight. Unlike helicopters, multicopters typically lack defining features to help with orientation; lighting is therefore a great solution. It makes most sense to employ a navigational lighting setup – Red on the Port (left) side, Green on the Starboard (right) side and a white strobe astern. When it comes to selecting your lights there are lots of options: LEDs, HPLEDs (High power LEDs), Strip lights and Strobes. Regular LEDs are inexpensive and come in an array of colours. While they consume little power, LEDs are best suited to nighttime applications as they are usually too dim to be seen in bright daylight. Alternatively the next generation of LEDS, namely HPLEDs and CREE LEDs are much brighter. They can be driven by much greater currents meaning that some can emit over 1000 lumens. At night they can be seen for miles, but more importantly they are visible in bright daylight. Since overheating is destructive, HPLEDs must be mounted on a heat sink to allow for heat dissipation. Both regular and HP LEDs are easy to wire up – however note that LEDs will only light up with correct electrical polarity and that they have a maximum current rating which must not be exceeded. To limit the amount of current through an LED a suitable resistor should be used. Strips lights are fun when it comes to night flights and are fantastic for orientation purposes. Some can be powered/controlled with an LED RGB Driver to cycle between different modes and colours. LEDs of all types can be turned into a strobe by using a suitable controller, strobes have the added bonus of low power consumption. The key to all lighting installations is to think about voltage and current requirements, a voltage regulator/UBEC will usually be necessary to help meet this requirements. Finally it is advisable to power lights from a separate battery to your flight battery.
