Description

Balancing propellers is one of the most important steps you can take to ensure your drone flies smoothly. Out of balance props cause vibrations which lead to lots of problems. Such as, poor quality video, often seen as ‘Jello Effectโ€™. It will also confuse flight control systems that use gyro sensors, leasing to poor flight performance. Worst of all, excessive vibration may can cause parts and fixings to come loose with time.

This propeller balancer uses magnetic suspension for greater accuracy when balancing the prop. Its has strong N45 neodymium magnets that give virtually zero resistance to the prop spindle, while the carbon fibre frame has zero flex.

It will balance model airplane props of all sizes and weights, boat props, spinners, car wheels, helicopter rotor heads, jet fans, fly wheels, etc.

Advice

How to balance your props:ย Balancing your props is a necessity.ย If a propeller is not balanced, one blade will be heavier than the other which will cause vibration when it spins. Any amount of vibration is bad news for the performance and reliability of your aircraft. It will lead to extra wear on motors and bearings. Make sensors, in particular gyros less accurate atย the detriment of flight performance. Also it will result in poor quality video, often being the cause of โ€œjello effectโ€.

The general principle of prop balancing is to determine the โ€œheavy sideโ€ of the propellerย and then to either remove material from the heavy side, or add weight to the light side.ย A prop is truly balanced if it can be held on a prop balance and remain stationary inย anyย position.

Method 1:ย Lightly sand the backside of the heavier blade with fine sandpaper. Recheck often to avoid removing too much material. Removing material at the very end of the heavy blade will have maximum impact, and avoid changing the airfoil shape.

Method 2:ย Apply a drop of medium CA to the backside of the light blade and use a piece of waxed paper or a plastic bag over your finger to smooth the CA into a thin film. Cure the CA with a light spray of accelerator. Re-check the balance. Apply more CA in thin layers until the propeller is balanced. NOTE: Before adding glue to a prop, make sure it is absolutely clean and free of any oil residue.

If the prop comes to rest in a level position, but is still obviously out of balance (this is indicated by a repetitive seesaw motion around the y axis or the prop dropping to one side after placing the prop vertically) you may need to add weight to the lighter side of the hub.ย Do not remove material from the hub.ย This could weaken the prop, making it unsafe.

While you should look to eliminate sources of vibration first, you can also consider using vibration damping materials and anti-vibration mounts to isolate sensation components from sources of vibration to improve their performance. We sell a range of
