The Tandem dual-band receivers are unlike any other FrSky 2.4Ghz or 868Mhz/900Mhz receivers, instead they work simultaneously at both 868Mhz and 2.4Ghz frequencies. That means Tandem receivers provide not only the low latency signal control, but long range with an enhanced level of high reliability and anti-interference performance as well.
The Tandem series receivers adopt a triple antenna design that provides multi-directional wide coverage for the remote signal. The 868Mhz antenna is a newly designed small form factor, but has the equivalent high-performance as with previous 868mhz antennas.
The TD MX receiver offers 4 PWM channels on a small and lightweight board. It also has multiple ports onboard like SBUS Out, SBUS In (Signal Redundancy), S.Port and FBUS. With the FBUS protocol, the Tandem series receivers can open up the possibility of seamlessly pairing with multiple telemetry devices (Neuron ESC, Advance Sensors, etc.) as well as simplifying the build’s setup. In addition, the receiver has a built in black-box function that can record power and signal related data.

If I buy a tandem x18 transmitter. What range can I expect?

Hi, for this receiver FrSky haven't quoted, but for another TD receiver, the TD R10, they say "up to 50KM – 100KM" so we would assume similar. That said, range is dependent on lots of variables so can vary significantly. For further info, this video is quite information.
