Until recently if you were in the market for a long range remote control system the TBS Crossfire was your only real option. However, FrSky have now bought out a competing package, the R9. Like the Crossfire system, the R9 setup broadcasts at a much lower frequency than typical RC, operating at around 900MHz as opposed to traditional 2.4GHz. This lower frequency enables better signal penetration and much greater range.
At the heart of the R9 system is the R9M transmitter module. Like the Crossfire, this plugs into the module bay of compatible transmitters, which include the Taranis radio range. The R9M module offers switchable power output and ultimately, the long range, low latency and reliability that you have been looking for. Compared to FrSky 2.4GHz long range receivers like the L9R, the R9 system has a much greater operating range, up to 10KM and above!
This is the EU LBT version of the R9M module, which supports 2 power settings 25mW (with telemetry) & 500mW (without telemetry). You can reflash it with non-EU firmware if required. Please note that the R9M is available in orange or black, the colour shipped will be random.
Please Note: This latest version of the R9M module comes with the new ACCESS Protocol pre-installed. FrSky no longer sell it with ACCST Protocol. To bind with ACCST receivers, download the firmware from FrSky’s website and flash the external module by adding the file to the “Firmware” folder in your radio’s SD card.
