Description

The Hobbywing X-Rotor Pro series ESC deliver class leading performance in terms of efficiency and reliability, making them our first choice ESC for professional applications. This particular 50A Pro version is suited to heavy lifting multirotors: hexacopters and octocopters. It’s rated at 50amps (70amp burst) and supports 4S to 6S (14.8v – 22.2v) operation. Super-bright, inbuilt LEDs save you the trouble of installing additional components into your model and are switchable between red and green via the control panel on the front of the ESC. This control panel also gives you control over motor direction (CW/CCW) and DEO function (on/off).

As with all of the X-Rotor ESCs, the 50A Pro has been designed specifically for multirotor use. With their special core program tuned for multirotors, the ESCs have been optimised for compatibility with disc type outrunner brushless motors, which are commonly used on large multirotors. A unique feature of the series is the Driving Efficiency Optimization (DEO) function. This significantly improves throttle linearity and driving efficiency, by automatically braking and quickly reducing the motor speed when decreasing the throttle amount. The effect is increased manoeuvrability and stability of your multi-rotor, with the bonus of improved efficiency too. The high performance of the drive chip is enhanced further by the use of extra low-resistance MOSFETs that also allow high currents to be held stable for longer.

Most flight controllers are compatible with the XRotor Pro series, which supports signal frequencies of up to 621Hz. Furthermore, as all of the settings are pre-set for multirotor use, using the XRotor Pro series couldn’t be simpler. Note that the ESC is OPTO, therefore it doesn’t have a built in 5V BEC. You will need an extra power source for your receiver. For this you can use a 5V UBEC, voltage regulator, or an extra battery.

The ESCs come with long power and signal wires as standard, which means they can be installed without extensions on even the largest of frames.

The ESCs are sold as pairs in a dual pack.

Advice

Here at Flying Tech we have a wide choice of electronic speed controllers (ESCs).

There are two main types of ESCs: 4-in-1 ESCs and single ESCs. A 4-in-1 ESC integrates four individual ESCs onto a single circuit board, each controlling a separate motor. A single ESC controls only one motor.

This 4-in-1 ESC is a more popular choice for racing quads, while single motor aircraft such as fixed wings would use a single ESC. Single ESCs are still used by some drone racers though, as after a crash or a burnt up ESC, they only have to replace one, not an entire 4-in-1 or stack which is a lot more costly. Single ESCs are also available which much greater current ratings (80amp +) so they are also used by power hungry multi-rotors, for example X-Class racing quads, professional camera flying “Cinelifters”.

When using individual ESCs, they typically need to be connected to a single power distribution board (PDB) or an “AIO flight controller” (a type of flight controller with integrated PDB) for power supply.
