The Detrum Z3 Lite is a simple autopilot that provides both stabilisation and a return to home function for pretty much any fixed wing aircraft. The stabiliser helps on several counts; in windy conditions it can be used to help smoothen your flight and make your aircraft more controllable. If you loose orientation the stabiliser can help you recover to straight and level flight and if you really have a moment you can switch into return to home (RTH) mode. The GPS on the autopilot will guide your aircraft back to the take-off location and then circle it until you are ready to take control again. It’s not just for straight and level flight either; it also has a dedicated Aerobatic Mode, which makes your plane snappier for precision maneuvers and can lock its attitude to simplify complex stunts.
The Z3 Lite is a great aid for those learning to fly, but equally if you are a more experienced pilot, it can give you the confidence to practice more risky maneuvers knowing that you have the ability to rescue your aircraft into the Safe Mode at the flick of a switch.
The Z3 Lite weighs just 12grams, and has a tiny footprint so it is perfect for most models, from small foamies and up. It supports normal wing, delta wing and V-tail model aircraft and can control up to 6 servos. The Z3 Lite is compatible with a wide range of radio receivers including those with SBUS, CPPM or DSMX – if you only have a PWM (one channel per wire) receiver, then you will need to purchase a PWM to PPM encoder.
The Detrum Z3 Lite offers four different flight modes and RTH:
Gyro Off Mode (OFF): Choose this mode to disable the gyros for all channels. The airplane will be completely under the control of your transmitter inputs, acting the same as it would without the Detrum Z3 Lite installed.
Normal Mode (Normal): In this mode, the gyro will sense angular velocity on each axis and make momentary reactions to improve the stability of your airplane. The normal mode is suitable for all types of airplane and useful in windy conditions.
Auto-Recovery Mode (Safe): When operating in this mode, the airplane will maintain level flight and altitude automatically. You can switch into this mode in an emergency to restore your aircraft to straight-and-level flight. This mode is suitable for the new beginners or the FPV (First Person View) applications.
Aerobatic Mode (Aerobatic): This mode holds and maintains your aircraft at a given attitude set by the last command sent from your transmitter, helping you to accomplish stunts like prop hanging, inverted flight, knife edges, low speed harriers, etc!
Return to home (RTH): The airplane will automatically fly back to the home position and then circuit around the take-off point. During the return flight, height can be controlled and you can exit the RTH mode at any time.
Together with Detrum Blitz DT-9 and RXC9M system, the telemetry function provides real time flight information, including, attitude, speed, altitude, distance, satellite reception. Flight information (max, min, average) is recorded and available for pilots to review after the flight is complete.
Dynam also make a version of this controller which is compatible with FPV systems and supports an OSD – the Detrum Z3 FPV.
FEATURES:
- Standalone autopilot with stabilisation function
- 32-bit high-performance ARM MCU, 6-axis sensor chipset
- Supports normal wing, delta wing, and V-tail airplanes
- Flight modes: Gyro Off Mode, Normal Mode, Auto-Recovery Mode (Safe), Aerobatic Mode, and RTH Mode
- Set the programmable items (aileron/roll/rudder gain, level offset, flight mode, etc.) via 3-in-1 program card –Â No computer required for setup.
- Supports PPM, DSM2/DSMX, S.BUS and receivers
- Compact size, supporting different mounting directions (face up, down, left, and right)
- Return to Home (Safe) Mode to restore aircraft to straight-and-level flight and return back to take-off point
IMPORTANT: The Detrum 3-1 programmer is required to setup the Detrum Z3 Lite Airplane Stabilizer (included in the Combo Set)
Tips:
- By default channel 5 is the flight mode switch and channel 6 is RTH switch. Assign a 3-position switch to the 5th channel and a 2 or 3-position switch to the 6th channel.
- To arm the FC, hold throttle and rudder to bottom right.
- Power up your aircraft where you intend to take-off as the Z3 will record the home location when it powers on.
