We have now stopped selling the Mobius camera, in favour of the RunCam HD. The RunCam is slightly cheaper than the Mobius camera and we think it performs better for both FPV and video recording.

The Mobius HD ActionCam was developed with one thing in mind, to capture great quality video at a low cost. It achieves this and a whole lot more. The Mobius is only a small camera, but it packs a lot into its compact package with video out capability for FPV use, superb HD video recording and DIY configurability.

The Mobius is a very capable camera; it can record in full HD 1080P at 30 fps, or 720P at either 60fps or 30 fps. It can also capture stunning images and time lapses at a resolution of up to 2304 x 1536. The quality of video captured by the Mobius is so good that it even competes with that taken by the GoPro. While the GoPro just about has the edge on it, the Mobius has a more streamlined form factor and it’s considerably lighter. Best still, if you end up crashing you have a lot less to lose with the GoPro costing over 4 times that of Mobius!

The Mobius is a very versatile camera and it’s equally a fantastic FPV camera. It has already been said that it’s lightweight and compact, but most importantly for FPV'ers it has a live video out. This means that with the correct cable (sold separately) you can plug it straight into a video transmitter and fly FPV while simultaneously recording your footage in glorious HD onto a microSD card, to watch back and share after the flight. The Mobius is also very configurable; you can adjust sharpness, exposure, contrast, saturation, color, white balance and even dynamic range to suit. Best still, the Mobius is very easy to install so you can be up and running very quickly. It features an internal 520mAH battery so there isn’t any complicated wiring. The battery provides an ample 80 minutes of recording time per charge, but should you wish to have longer you can provide a 5V power supply. The Mobius also comes with a very adaptable mount, which utilises the standard ¼”-20 tripod thread allowing for endless mounting options. You don’t even have to worry about which way up to mount it as the camera can be configured to rotate the video 180 degrees.

There is a huge following for the Mobius camera within the RC community; indeed it’s quickly becoming the go to camera for FPV flyers. You only have to Google “Mobius FPV” to find lots of videos, advice, firmware mods and even 3D printed gimbal mount designs. If you are interested, a great place to start is the dedicated Mobius ActionCam Thread on RCGroups.com.

The Mobius can be reconfigured, settings changed and firmware updated using a free GUI for either Windows or Mac, alternatively there is an online GUI so you don’t even have to install anything.

For the latest firmware see official Mobius ActionCam downloads page.

The Mobius is available in two options (option B discontinued). The first come with a standard lens, the second features a wide angle lens.

  • Standard Lens (A): 86 degrees (1080p) / 46 degrees (720p)
  • Wide Angle Lens (B): 116 degrees (1080p) / 63 degrees (720p) - discontinued, replaced by C lens edition
  • Ultra Wide Angle Lens (C) 132 degrees (1080p)

You may be wondering which to get, well it depends on what you intend using it for. The standard A lens is arguably best for FPV due to the wide angle lens making things look further away than they are, while the wide angle B lens is better for recording flights due to its greater FOV resulting in a more steady image, however ultimately the decision comes down to personal preference.
