This power distribution board provides a tidy plug and play solution to power your speed controllers and other electronics. Simply use 3.5mm male connectors on your ESCs and plug a battery in using the (optional) presoldered XT60 male connector. The board also features a 2 pin, JST size auxiliary power out port that is perfect for powering LEDs or any accessories fitted to your quadcopter. The PCB is gold plated for optimal efficiency.

The PDB has red and black for ESC, what happens to the 3rd ESC lead?

By admin on

The red and black connections provide power to your ESC. The three wires leading from your ESC go to your brushless motor, not the PDB.

I have 4 Mikrokopter MK3638 motors rated at 20A (770kv) running on 4S system with 30A ESCs. Would you think this quad board is sufficient for this setup or should I use something bigger? Not sure from your specs what peak load it could accept. Thanks.

Hi, the PDB is rated at 20amps per channel so 80amp total. As your motors are rated at 20A max it should be fine. Also the 80amp rating is a conservative figure, I think you would be ok for 100amp burst.

About Power Distribution Boards (PDBs): A PDB is used to distribute power from the flight battery to the speed controllers (ESCs) and other auxiliaries. They make for a tidy and reliable installation. The alternative is a bird’s nest of cables back to the flight battery and a higher risk of bad connections over time, as connecting/disconnecting your battery will tugged on your wiring. Additionally if you need to replace an ESC you will have to cut into the wiring harness to detach it, with a PDB it's simply a case of unplugging/desoldering a connection. That said, if you are only wiring up a small quadcopter and space is tight, a wiring harness might be a better and lighter solution. Great consideration should be given to your power distribution, as any failure in the system will likely result in a loss of power to the motors. In this regard ensuring that your solution is able to handle the peak current draw from your electronics is top priority.
