FPV range and video quality isn't only determined by transmitter power and antenna gain; power supply noise is also a factor. A lot of people use the same battery to power both their drone and their FPV setup, the problem with this is that it can cause interference, seen as moving lines in your video feed. The interference is a product of the motors causing voltage fluctuations as they change RPM. If you find that you suffer interference when your motors are running and not when they aren't, then a noisy power supply is probably your problem.

One solution is to use a dedicated battery to power your FPV setup, but this will add extra weight and it means yet another battery to charge. A better solution is to use what's called a power filter (also known as a LC filter). The filter is installed between your FPV gear and the incoming power from the battery. This power filter uses an inductor and capacitor to remove noise, feeding a clean power supply to your FPV gear.

This power filter is suitable for setups up to 16V and maximum 2A (200mA) load.

Note that since the motors/ESC are the biggest cause of noise, depending on the size of motors/ESC you use, you might not need an LC filter at all. Conversely, in some extreme cases an LC filter will not be able to properly filter out the noise. In which case you should use a separate battery to power your FPV gear.

  • Voltage drop over filter: 225mV at 900mA
  • Impedence/ESR: 0.06Ohm at 100kHz/16V
  • Ripple Current: 1190mA
  • DC Resistance: 0.25 Ohm/path
  • Max 16V Input (2-4S Li-Po)
  • Dimensions: 38x15x13mm
  • Weight: 9g

Hi team,

I think I understand how to wire this device but could you let me know if my below understanding if right?

1 - my current FPV Camera system is powered from the FC
2 - my current VTX pulls it power from the PDB

3 - Do I wire this filter in between the camera and the FC or, between the VTX and the PDB?

Thank you

Hi,

Between the VTX and PDB is the correct place.
